Cheers of thousands of high-school students resounded for blocks as they celebrated the opening of a new athletic field at the Galileo Academy of Science & Technology in San Francisco. There to inaugurate the new field was All-Pro football player Guy McIntyre of the San Francisco 49ers, who starred at the grand-opening and dedication ceremony on October 9.
Homeowners and nonprofits in San Francisco that cannot afford to repair or renovate their properties can submit applications by December 11 to get the work done for free. On April 24, 2010, hundreds of volunteers will work in teams to renovate the homes of qualifying low-income, disabled and elderly homeowners and non-profit facilities and schools in San Francisco.
Darlene Saechao, a senior at John F. Kennedy High School in Nystrom, used to be shy. Today, she is one of seven outspoken leaders in Richmond’s pioneering Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Council working to promote safe communities and positive youth development.
