In 2009, nearly 100 residents, business owners, youth, and representatives from government, nonprofit and faith-based groups, took part in a local “listening campaign,” sharing their views on aspects of Nystrom they would like to improve and ways to engage the community. The process helped community members identify five top priorities for the neighborhood:
• Public safety
• Education
• Housing and community infrastructure
• Health
• Jobs and economic development
The Richmond Children’s Foundation, the organization that conducted interviews and surveys in Nystrom, will use results to engage residents and other stakeholders to develop an action plan.
